Why Google Went Instant

In the article “Why Google Went Instant,” the newest addition, Google Instant, is explained. Google instant is the same great search engine that you already know but it automatically searches as you type. You don’t even have to press enter. I’ve tried it multiple times and found that it really does make searching faster and more effective. It lets you know if you are searching on the wrong path and if you need to change a word or two. You no longer have to start a new search to change a word that brings up unwanted results. You get live feedback on what you are searching for. For me, this saved a small amount of time and frustration but when searching for a lot of things, the time and frustration adds up if you can’t figure out the perfect words to search for. I didn’t have to get an update or download anything to use Google Instant. I just went on Google and it was ready to go. Instant is also compatible with all major web browsers. It is as simple as going to Google.com and typing what you want to find no matter what browser you use.

I usually get annoyed by all of the sponsored links. I was hoping that Instant would help lower the amount of advertisements but they’re still there. Instant is actually helping companies that advertise on Google by showing the sponsored links before you even complete your search. For example, when you type the word “Sport,” in Google Instant, after you type “S,” a link to the Sears website comes up. When you have “Sp,” Sprint comes up. At “Spo,” Sports Authority comes up. As annoying as it is to be constantly advertised to, without advertisements, Google would not have the funds to keep such a fast and convenient search engine running. With those funds Google has made their service much faster and able to carry more data. A year ago Google Instant would have been impossible. Thanks to Moorse Law, we can expect big leaps inn technology such as this every so often.

I think Google Instant will make Google a more popular Search Engine because it is now faster and more convenient. Even though Google is and has been the most used search engine, this could put Google further ahead of its competitors. In the article, a commentator suggests that Google Instant will make Google’s competitors, Bing and Yahoo, seem much slower. I believe what he said is true. I also think that soon, even though Google has a head start, instant search feedback will become standard in all search engines. Google is setting a new standard for search engines. Just like when only some banks had ATM’s and now all banks do. Soon enough every search engine will be caught up with the technology but I don’t think the competitors will even get close to how popular Google is. And maybe when everyone catches up with this technology, Google will come out with something that is even better, easier or faster. It is bound to happen.
