“Madison Avenue Warms Up To Electric Cars”

Car companies have had to innovate on the ways to efficiently and cost effectively run a car. In the article “Madison Avenue Warms Up To Electric Cars” it explains the ins and outs of this process and how companies expect to expand within future years. Enormous ways to cost effectively run a car is off of electricity. This seems difficult as an idea and transition because the majority of our cars are run by gas. It is simple in thought, companies just have to innovate public areas by putting electric charging stations in public locations like malls, sporting events, and shopping centers. The present charging stations have an LCD screen that displays the charge of your battery. This LCD display also contains ads to stores within the mall that participate in funding these incredibly advanced charge stations. “Starting this fall, you will see electric cars from GM, Nissan, Daimler's Smart Car division, and others rolling through your neighborhood.” This statement has nothing but positive influence about it. Our world would be better off with electricity run cars rather than diesel fueled run cars. These effects range from pollution to individuals to destroying our ecosystem. Many ask who will pay for these charging stations and where will they be placed. Today there are only about a thousand charging stations nationwide. Obama and his administration have set aside around four hundred million dollars for further construction of these charging stations. As stated in the article about thirty thousand chargers will be built nation wide by next years end. GE a fortune five hundred company and start up companies like ECOtality are putting together funds for these financial adventures. The problem is that it will be very hard for these companies to profit. It costs about a dollar a gallon relative to what gas would cost. These chargers cost anywhere from three thouand to seven thousand dollars to buy and install. The problem is that these high overhead costs can’t be covered by the sale of electricity at the low price it costs. The CEO of ECOtality suggests making these chargers huge ad campaigns. At malls they can advertise shoes or a particular clothing brand so you are more inclined to visit there store when you are strolling through the mall. Also a big incentive could be coupons that are illustrated on the LCD screens. The CEO of ECOtality has raised two-hundred and thrity millions dollars to install fifteen-thousand electric car chargers by the end of two thousand and eleven. After reading up on this topic and understanding the faults of electric cars I have come up with few concerns. One of the major concerns is the battery and how often you will have to replace it over the life of the car. I respond to this by saying that with any car you are going to have to replace parts and some are expensive and some are not. With an electric car the only major part you will have to replace is the battery other parts will not give up as often because of the efficiency and cleanliness of an electric car. I totally support the manufacturing of electric cars and stations. This innovation to our society will bring pollution improvements and will bring insight to those who decide to further this revolution of improvement and cleanliness to our world..
