Windows Phone 7 'Early' To Smartphone Market, Says Ballmer

Apple has been dominating the market for smart phones for some time now. Microsoft hopes to change this by introducing the windows phone 7 to the market early. Steve Ballmer believes the the smart phone market is still very young and therefor, they will still be able to make waves amongst their rivals. On the other hand, many researchers are saying that the new windows smart phone will not move windows stock very significantly. Some predict Microsoft’s world wide market share from 4.7% to 5.2%. However some analysts say that it will eventually decrease again to 3.9%.

I believe that Microsoft is playing with fire here by releasing this phone early. They are currently being scrutinized for their premature release of the xbox 360 which cause many problems for consumers. Many researchers have said that this new phone beats the iphone and android in a few areas of technology, but falls short in many other ways with missing features and fewer applications. The new phone features apps like allowing the owner to work on Microsoft office documents through the phone which is a great advantage for businesses. However the fact that Microsoft decided to launch this phone early, will only prompt consumers and critics to look more carefully for the flaws in the product. The early release of this product could also turn consumers away from this product. This is because there could possibly be a lack of faith in the fact that all aspects and apps on this phone will be running correctly. Furthermore i feel that consumers will read many reviews before investing, and this create a lot of indecisiveness amongst the buyers.

On the positive side, the smart phone market is still relatively young, and Microsoft wanted to jump on the bandwagon, before new technology starts to emerge. I feel that the features like allowing the use of Microsoft office through this phone, will entice people in the work force to move away from the iphone and test out this new product. By releasing this product early Microsoft will receive a lot of feed back, positive or negative, on how to fix this product and create a more efficient model. I feel that in the next few months, Microsoft will be collecting a lot of information on how to make this product work better, and in turn come out with a new and improved product relatively quickly. Other apps such as netflix will help the phone appeal to younger customers. Finally the phone allows for multitasking. In effect, multiple apps can be run at once which will be a great advantage for consumers who need to find documents, search bing.com, and make calls at the same time.

I feel that overall, this is a poor decision for Microsoft to do. I feel that by releasing this product early, they will turn customers who were on the fence about purchasing it away. I think that there will be an initial spike in purchases due to some of its new features, and the ease the owners will be able to share information such as documents, and spreadsheets with others, but in turn there will be negative reviews.
